I know in Europe, 18 is the drinking age but they are very lenient in most places and don’t card. Would it be the same on a cruise? (in the east mediterranean, from italy to greece to turkey to croatia) What would be the consequences of underage drinking? I’ll be 16, and I’m not planning to get drunk or anything, just have a drink or 2. I’m from the US, and the cruise brochure says usually less than 50% of people on the cruise will be from the US. Even if in most European Countries drinking age if even lower than 18, during a crruise it depends on each cruise company rules; usually it’s 21, but you have to check on their own website for the correct information.
Of course when you leave the ship, you have to follow the law of the Country you’re in.
Every ship I have ever been on has been very careful to enforce the drinking age on board. Drinks are charged with your ship ID card, which shows your age, and any crew member who knowingly serves any underage passenger can lose his job. Underage passengers who are caught drinking can be removed from the ship, bag and baggage, at the next port, with no apology, no refund, and no ticket home. What you do on shore is up to you, but you should still be careful to observe whatever the local law might happen to be!
Jen, if you are 16 years old, don’t plan on drinking on board a cruise ship. You have to show your cruise ID card and it will indicate your age on it.
