Have you been to Europe in January?

in Other - Europe

Erin :

We are seriously thinking of going on an Eastern Mediterranean cruise in January 2011. Ports of call include Barcelona, Rome, Athens, Ephesus (Turkey), Cairo, and Malta.

My question is, have you been to any of these places in January (or in the winter)? If so, how did you pack and what did you wear? Was it rainy?

Thank you!

Many of those places can be anything from mild to very cold. My best friend lives in Rome and they had snow this year, lots of rain and cold, however, it can be mild and sunny. Greece and Turkey can experience cold weather. Barcelona can be pleasant, but can be cold. Malta shouldn’t be too bad and Cairo should be quite pleasant. I live in southern Spain and January is usually very pleasant, but this year wasn’t.
You can never plan for the weather in winter. Every year will be different.

The closest I can say is England in my Christmas 2000; and it snowed!

Sorry it isn’t exactly what you were looking for.

For barcelona, rome, athens and Ephesus..January will be cold. Wear a coat. It might even snow..For cairo and malta i dont know but i assume it will be warmer but still you’ll need a jacket.
